Dictionary of Obscure Sorrows

This blog takes the Devil’s Dictionary idea of amusing definitions and uses it to make these sometimes sad but accurate entries for those odd feelings you might have had in the past.. Here is the one for the word chrysalism:

n. the amniotic tranquility of being indoors during a thunderstorm, listening to waves of rain pattering against the roof like an argument upstairs, whose muffled words are unintelligible but whose crackling release of built-up tension you understand perfectly.

Haenyo – Korean Diving Grandmas

in the 18th century Korean women near the island of Jeju used a tax loophole to hunt in the ocean floor for shellfish and other sea animals. While there are not as many divers due to the shift to tourism in the area, these ladies still go into the deep – with no oxygen tanks.
