The Jealous Curator: Ignacio Torres
Ignacio Torres takes the stereoscopic gif one further by creating whimsical, beautiful, strange imagery. From Ignacio:
This project began from the theory that humans are made of cosmic matter as a result of a star’s death. I created imagery that showcased this cosmic birth through the use of dust and reflective confetti to create galaxies. The models organic bodily expressions as they are frozen in time between the particles suggest their celestial creation. In addition, space and time is heightened by the use of three-dimensional animated gifs. Their movement serves as a visual metaphor to the spatial link we share with stars as well as their separateness through time.
Andre DeFreitas’s Double Exposures
Along with the above female/forest combination, Defreitas also has juxtapositions of a child and a skyline and of a woman and the waves in the sea.
In honor of Beastie Boy Adam Yauch’s passing, Morgan Meis deconstructs the lyricism and uncanny teamwork that made the trio icons. In a moment of tribute, the writer compares the trio to three pious Jews saved from King Nebuchadnezzar in a story from the Book of Daniel — which the Beasties themselves used as the basis of a song on Paul’s Boutique.
